about the books

Join Ehud in his adventures and battles for survival in those far-off days of pharaohs in Egypt and the mines of King Solomon.

In this first volume of the Ehud papers, Ehud, armed only with sharp wits, sharp elbows and a sure skill with the leather sling, confronts the freewheeling and dangerous world of God-mad generals, cynical priests, bitter tribal hatreds and purring scheming women in the shadow of the great walls of Jericho.

From blood baths to scented bosoms, goat herd to chariot boy, from duelling in the sun to playing the secret agent, Ehud is involved in a succession of lucky escapes, trickery, amours and desperate fights to the finish. And what’s more he – as you will! – seems to enjoy every minute of it!

I recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction.
Ehud and the Great Walls of’ is a historical fiction set in 1600 BC. The story begins with Ehud, a penniless man with potential, and his honesty works well for him. In a world where the Israelites have invaded the Promised Land, the story is told behind the walls of Jericho and introduces you to the story of survival and possibilities. When Ehud realizes that his entire family is wiped out after returning from herding goats, he has no other choice but to join General Joshua’s army and assist in the raids. His journey begins there as he faces many obstacles and missions, including confronting his enemies and being forced into a duel to death. Ehud’s personality and growth act as a testimony to this story. His character is delightful to read, and as you follow his path, you are increasingly attached to his endeavour. The literature and how things are described also assist in helping the reader envision the scenes. This creates a very enjoyable story to read. I recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction.

Amusing adventure - very easy to read!
Verified Purchase A fast paced and amusingly written adventure, Ehud and The Great Walls of Jericho is a great read for all ages from teenagers up. Ehud is a bit of a mischievous rogue. He is the narrator of the story. The style is tongue-in-cheek and one can easily picture the scenes he describes and the reaction of his superiors to this cheeky boy-warrior that takes no nonsense. As with all good adventure stories, there is blood, guts and gore - but not overwhelming and actually one at times laughs at the absurd descriptions Ehud provides as he gets himself in and out of scrapes. A jolly good read. If you like the Percy Jackson books, you will love Ehud and The Great Walls of Jericho.

Good Story
This is a very interesting story that needed a little bit more editing by a third party. AT times the word choice becomes very repetitive. One part that comes to mind is a story about some leaders on the dais. The phrase "on the dais" comes up over and over again. I get it. They are on a dais. And the dais is pretty important in the grand scheme of the scene you are setting, but you don't need to say the word dais every paragraph. There are other examples too that took away from an otherwise interesting story.

This book gives the famous Bible story a fresh, bold voice through Ehud's sharp humor and no-nonsense attitude. The mix of vivid battles, human flaws, and sly humor feels modern and fun to read. Call him Babyface at your peril!

Ehud may be short, snub-nosed and fresh-faced but don’t underestimate him. Under those black curls there’s a sharp fighter and a shrewd survivor.

Jericho has fallen to Joshua and his Israelite army. Amid the looting and the slaughter of the survivors, the hunt is on for the great golden helmet of Baal. The helmet must be found – and destroyed – or the invasion of the rich Promised Land will fail.

In this second book of the series, Ehud is, as usual, in the thick of it.

The challenges come at him fast and furious. Whether it’s confronting a charging chariot single-handedly, sweet- talking a drug-crazed mountain king, or escaping the claws of a determined devil woman, Ehud is up to it. With his deft skills, smooth talking, and sheer brass he turns near disaster into triumph.

But is finding the golden helmet of Baal a challenge too far? When the best laid plans go astray no one has the answers, and those who survive are left standing numb and shivering in fear. All except Ehud.

A great book for all ages
I loved the first book, Ehud and the Great Walls of Jericho, and this second book, Ehud and the Golden Helmet of Baal is just as good. A great book for all ages. The Golden Helmet of Baal continues the adventures of the central character, Ehud. Ehud lives by his wits and is a bit of a chancer. He likes the easy life but gets roped into all sorts of danger, which he good naturedly complains about, but gets on with it and does the job. This time, he is sent off to find and escort the new chief of his tribe. However, when he finds the new chief he discovers him to be an evil and cruel narcissist who demands human sacrifices for his pleasure. When Ehud's loyal fellow adventurer is caught and thrown alive into the bowels of Baal it sets off a series of events which make Ehud the target for a revengeful sociopath called Eve, a follower of Baal and devotee of the supposed new chief. Lots of adventure, twists and turns, and the wry humor in which Ehud relates his tale make this an easy and enjoyable read.

Whether you like Ehud or not he is a chap to have at your side in a scrap.
General Joshua has taken Jericho but now, as his ragtag army advances into the rich “Promised Land,” they are confronted by the military might of Canaan. And, as if all those chariots, armoured infantry and archers are not enough to contend with, they must face the god of their Enemies, the terrible Baal and his devil-women worshippers, the Daughters of Baal, who feed the flaming oven of his belly with human victims.

Here, in the third book of the series, Ehud is, as usual, in the thick of it, needing all the swagger, skill, and bluff he can muster to triumph over the hazards which face him; from the curse of being eaten by maggots, the stab of a poisoned dagger, the bite of a rabid dog, to the touch of a leper.

Most dangerous of all, and Ehud’s deadliest enemy, is Eve. A Daughter of Baal, and blinded in one eye by Ehud, she is utterly dedicated to his slow and very painful death.

Timeless Adventures with Ehud
This is an entertainingly chaotic romp through history following a character who has the uncanny knack of always landing on his feet. The main character, a figure who never really seems phased by the unfolding dramas around him, is endlessly fascinating. Hes trapped in a variety of historical moments, each bristling with intrigue and tension, yet he always manages to slither his way out, often in a way that leaves the reader both curious and amused. The writing style often feels like youre listening to a welltraveled friend recounting absurd stories from their youth. It doesnt take itself too seriously, which is part of its charm. The historical settings are immersive without being overly detailed, allowing the focus to stay on the protagonists scrappy resourcefulness. Some parts feel a touch rushed, but overall, its a vivid read thats hard to put down.

Biblical Action, Twists, and a Cat-Eyed Villain—What’s Not to Love?
If you think biblical fiction is all solemn and serious, Ehud and the Revenge of the Cat-eyed Woman will change your mind in the best way possible. This book is a wild ride through ancient Canaan, filled with political scheming, larger-than-life characters, and enough backstabbing (sometimes literal) to keep you hooked from start to finish. The protagonist, Ehud, is sharp, witty, and constantly navigating the treacherous world of priests, warriors, and double-crossers. He’s not your typical biblical hero—he’s scrappy, a little morally flexible, and somehow always getting into (and out of) trouble. The dialogue is sharp, the action is fast-paced, and the setting feels gritty and real. You can practically smell the desert dust and hear the clinking of silver in the hands of scheming priests. And let’s talk about the Cat-eyed Woman—because WOW. She’s equal parts terrifying and fascinating, and let’s just say, you do not want to get on her bad side. Revenge is the name of the game, and she plays it like a master. The writing is immersive, with a mix of humor, historical detail, and unexpected twists. One moment you’re laughing at Ehud’s sharp tongue, the next you’re holding your breath as he faces yet another dangerous foe. The book does a fantastic job of balancing history with storytelling—there’s no dry, textbook feel here. It’s all action, intrigue, and characters who feel alive. If you love historical fiction with a darkly humorous edge, or if you just want to see what happens when faith, power, and revenge collide, this book is a must-read. Now, excuse me while I go track down the first two books in the series—I need more Ehud in my life!
